I’m so excited to share with you today about Poetry Church! It is beautiful and meaningful and what I need you to know is that this small group is both grounding and transporting to a whole different reality. It’s both. It settles us firmly in the present and also makes this present moment come all the way alive.
What I ALSO need you to know is that you do not— DO NOT— need to be a poet to do this. It is for everyone. It is a small group for humans who have had a human experience, which is every last one of us.
What Mary Ellen Lough does is guide us through the landscape of our lives using the lens of poetry, offering us time and space to reflect, journal, and share about where we see God, where we find meaning, where the heartache is, what the longing might be pointing toward.
Here’s what I love about this: it is equally good for church ladies who have gone every Sunday since the 1950’s and a group of friends who are currently taking a break from organized religion. It is for people in their 20’s and people in their 70’s. It is for the die-hards and the deconstructing.
Maybe it is for the group you are thinking about right this moment. The ones who are asking for something more, something different, and you haven’t known what to give them.
Maybe it’s you, who are roaming the spiritual landscape with some skepticism and not a whole lot of solid belief, and you’d just like to explore the sacred in a really open and beautiful way.
Friends, come to this table. It is a poetic feast.
Also? We supported so many poets by making this. We paid them for the beauty of their wisdom words. That feels so good. And some poets offered us this as a gift, and that feels so good too. A love feast all around.
